How come some DVD-R cd cant be played back that means they wont play on your dvd player?

Idownloaded a movie on my computer and it will not work on my dvdplayer with my tv why

  1. Just because you can play a file on your computer and see moving images, and burn that file to a DVD-R, won't necessarily mean that you have made a DVD.

    The data on a DVD movie is several GB in size, wich for most is to to much to download. So usually this data has been converted to some other format that is much smaller but still can be played on a computer. This format may not be supported by your DVD player, thus it will not play.

    The extension on the file you downloaded is probably something like .avi .mpg .wmv

    An .avi file may play on some DVD players, depending on what "codec" has been used and that your player supports said codec.
