Question:

How come some skiers are so rude to snowboarders at ski resorts?

I know it is NOT a generalization. But I have seen plenty of those "mid-age" skiers are pretty rude to snowboarders at ski resorts. They ski around like they should be the only people on the slopes. Of course, there are snowboarders out there that are not considered to others. But most of the snowboarders that I have seen in CA (at least) are fairly nice. Snowboarders pay just as much at the resort and deserve to be there.

  1. honestly, from a mostly skier standpoint (i board, but not much)  my observation has been every time i have seen a skier/boarder wreck the boarder is usually laughing too hard to see if everyone is OK as if what happened is unimportant and in the scheme of things inconsequential in the life of a boarder. the 2 would get along better if every boarder had to learn to ski and every skier had to learn to snowboard....nothin like knowing how the other side lives.

  2. I have just as many issues of angst with the run-of-the-mill 2-plank park rat as I do with knuckledraggers. The way I see it, there is red paint on both sides of the fence. Us middle-aged skiers grew up in a different ski culture. We were taught a certain way and stick to "The Code" because it's been drilled into us. In recent years it seems (to many of us over 30) that the young'ns (skiers and riders both) have bad manners.I've had more "kids" in the past two years alone pass me too close, cut me off, or just flat-out-freakin' stop right in front of me. There's no reason for anyone to bomb down a cruiser cutting off the Ski-Wee class and a group of grandmas.

On the other hand...I can see how freestylers (riders and skiers alike) can get pissed when some $#!Thead doesn't call a drop, cuts someone off going for a box or rail, and generally makes a horse's a$$ out of themselves in the park.

There are a lot of responsible riders and skiers...and there a lot of buttheads too. I'll be happy if bonehead skiers stay out of the park and if lame-o knuckledraggers stop sitting down on the tops of headwalls.

Also...the reason riders in CA are so nice is because they get a lot of good weed. It makes them really mellow.

  3. I doubt that it has anything to do with what they are riding.

  4. i haven't really realized this when i've gone but its probably because there are alot more skiiers than snowboarders since snowboarding is a lot newer so they just feel that they deserve the mountain more than the snowboarders, even though its not true

  5. Many skiers think that snowboarders are dangerous, degenerates and no-good punks.  This image is fading fairly rapidly however.  The people that are rude to snowboarders are  probably rude to everyone that they see are beneath them.  They might just be total bung holes as well.

These skiers may also be jealous.  Snowboarders are more outgoing to other boarders.  It doesn't matter how good you are, you are a border is you have a snowboard strapped to your feet.  Skiers tend to stick to themselves or their small groups, and rarely connect with other skiers.
