  1. Its really simple ..we as a society need to ENCOURAGE all forms of alternate energy in order to avoid dependence on foreign sources for energy....just as we encouraged the growth of the rairoads in the 19th century. Oil is an established source, and it is finite. Oil companies need no "encouragement", no subsidies (tax write offs) even though we give them plenty. To idiotic rightists: this should not be a partisan issue, unless you want to keep the US dependent on Saudi Arabia...which  your leadership actually does...they are tied at the hip thru oil, its in their interest $ to keep America addicted.

  2. When you subsidize wind power, you are actually giving $$ to algore and his companies. Of course the dems what to subsidize their own kind.

  3. Big Wind. LOL. Please provide some names of Big Wind, and no Rush Limbaugh or Sean Hannity will not suffice.

  4. Actually liberals are against wing farms. Remember they are the ones who don't want wind farms ruining there view of the ocean and lakes, such as Ted Kennedy and Pilosi

  5. Subsidies are something that politicians use to direct behavior or get votes.   Or in the case of oil to punish for being successful.

The voter says, if it benefits me, I like it.

Try to do away with home owner subsidies.

Why do we subsidize tobacco farmers and pay farmers to grow corn for fuel, raise food prices and contribute to world hunger.

Do away with all subsidies, my house is paid off!

  6. Because the socialist democrat elitist are all heavily invested in it. Their rank and file who are for the most part poor because they wait on handouts from their slave masters do not realize this because like an abused housewife they believe only what their abuser tells them.

  7. Record profits in the Oil industry lead me to believe that they don't need subsidizes.  The wind industry and other emerging technologies need to be helped along because oil will not last forever.

  8. Big Oil is poisoning our environment while keeping a death grip on our economy.  Also, why do we need to give tax subsidies to a business that brought in the biggest annual profits ever?

  9. Wind energy is the worst idea since Marx wrote the manifesto. We need high density energy like nuclear reactors, not big fans. Enviro marxists are scary.

  10. Bravo.

Edit: wimsy, the enviromental sanctions put on companies caused by libs has increased the price of goods in this country

  11. We subsidize oil indirectly by allowing pollution to be completely free (yet the public pays immensely through increased health care, degraded environment, etc.)

"Big oil" is making record profits, has lucrative ties with Congress and doesn't need any help maintaining a monopoly.  Alternative energy only needs to be subsidized because, as stated, Oil producers do not pay the TRUE COST of their product (pollution).  If a carbon tax were in place for CO2 emitters, then wind, solar, etc could compete quite nicely.

  12. because wind good, oil bad

but it kinda defeats the purpose of having wind power when people keep barring the wind mills in their "backyard" or the power lines from the power to the people through some wooded area...

  13. Good question!  And I'd love to see a liberal try to give you a reasonable answer!  Bottom line is that subsidies for wind power is a waste because wind power would create a far more dramatic environmental impact than cars driving on gas or a nuclear power plant!

It would take literally THOUSANDS of windmills over hundreds of square miles to power a city.  Possibly even TENS OF THOUSANDS or HUNDREDS OF THOUSANDS to power a larger city like Los Angeles or New York!  Where are you going to put them and how many birds would they kill once installed?  Whatever you do, don't put them in Massachusetts.  Ted Kennedy already blocked a proposal to put windmills near his home for fear of them blocking his ocean view!

  14. Because people equate oil's large profits with a high rate of return and want to take their anger or frustration out on the big oil companies. In fact, big oil's big profits come from the fact that the oil companies have such a large investment. Their return on equity is about average when compared with all companies in the US. If you put 10 billion dollars in a savings account wouldn't it earn a lot more than an account of $1000 (at the same interest rate)?

  15. Because we are looking to find alternative energy sources.  Therefore subsidies for wind, solar, and bio fuels are the future.  Subsidies for oil companies who are already making record profits is counter productive.

  16. LOLOL   "big wind"

    that's really funny.

subsidies are not "evil" they're just bad when an industry like the Oil industry is not using the subsidies like they're supposed to... they're just sitting on the bigger profit.

it is VERY important to the future of the human race that we switch from Oil to wind and other sources of power... so... the best way to move it along quickly is to give people financial incentive.

why do you love "big oil" so much and hate 'big wind" so much?  are you crazy?

  17. dude maybe the are thinking about global warming

  18. big wind? really? really really? please take a look at the wealth and influence of oil companies compared to wind power companies. the truth is that many wind power companies are just getting their operations off the ground. the government has historically subsidized emerging technologies and businesses that they believe will move the country forward. exxon etc with their record profits clearly do not need subsidies. take a look at the article i link below that discusses how many wind and solar projects are waiting for government subsidies to pass before they can move forward with new construction.

EDIT: i love that photoshopped picture of hillary. it's amazing :D

  19. Did big wind make record profits this year?  Did I miss something?  Is big wind gouging the h**l out of us on a necessity of life?  Edit:  Congress spent less time asking questions of oil executives than they spent on steroids in baseball.  They didn't dig into anything.  In fact, they shot down the NOPEC bill that would allow congress to investigate price fixing.  There is no competition in the fuel industry.  Name another industry that is like that.  Why do companies that import oil and companies that do not, charge the same prices?  Is importing oil  free?  THREATS of a hurricane drive up prices.  All companies raise prices due to an increase of in goods they buy, but it does not equal record profits.  If material for a shirt manufacturer goes up, they pass along the increase to consumers. Also they do not raise the prices of the shirts already produced at a lower cost before they make the new ones out of the higher priced material. They do not add major price increases on top of it, because doing so would drive them out of business.  The only reason oil companies, suppliers and gas stations can get away with it is because they are selling a necessity.  Oil goes up a few dollars a barrell and fuel rises considerably for the supply at the station that has already been bought and paid for. When oil drops, fuel prices drop at a much slower rate than it rose.  Need anything else?  Edit:  Read Yahoo news.  " Oil prices up on tropical storm forming in the Carribean " Headline Right now.  What an excuse.
