Question:

How come tail lights on 18 wheelers are small, and car/truck tail lights are huge?

Doesn't make much sense to me. Anyone know why?

  1. I think personal vehicles are designed to look good to the consumer.  The lights don't really need to be that large for safety.  Semi's are built simply to be functional.


  2. maybe...because a giant truck is easy enough to see without the tail lights.

  3. 18 wheeler lights are small due to the fact they are not considered passenger cars were as minivans everday trucks and suv's are designed to carry people from place to place.

  4. Im guessing its probably the scale. On a car its smaller so the lights look bigger and a truck is bigger so the lights look smaller.

  5. Fashion.  Big lights on consumer vehicles are fashonable.  if you look at cars from the 60's and 70's the taillights are no bigger than those on a semi truck.  The smaller lights are cheaper too because on the truck they arent really built into the body of the trailer, they are just stuck on the outside.  so you dont need big expensive lights.
