How come that a man always feel so freezing cold?

How come that a man always feel so freezing cold at an altitude of 8000ft high on a mountaintop where he stands otherwise much closer to the sun? I saw people survive with serious frostbites after their exploration in high mountains and wondered about the shorter distance between man and the sun, which didn't seem to be working.
