Because the 3rd and 4th set was 7-6 Federer and he was 7-6 in the 5th set. Therefore, the people at Wimboldon got it wrong. Federer should have gotten the trophy and not loud mouth Nadal because he lost the 5th set 6-7.

  1. The fifth set at Wimbledon does not have a tie breaker, the first one that wins by two games wins the fifth and deciding set.  The other sets are decided by  7 point tiebreaker after they tie at 6 games apiece.

  2. That's exactly what I was thinking. He had 7-6 in the 5th set, so I think he should have ultimatly won.

  3. Because in the deciding set best of five there is no tie breaker. Each play continue to play until there are 2 games differences. Only the US OPEN that use tiebreaker, not in AUSSIE, FRENCH AND WIMBLEDON.

  4. Because in the final set you can't do a tiebreaker...so you have to win by two no matter how many games you play.

  5. There is no tie break in the final set - !

They have to play for a two set advantage hence 9-7. Federer was serving first in the 5th set so had big advantage because after 6-6 all he had to do was break Nadal and he would win - however Nadal had to break Federer and then hold his own serve.

11 years ago i saw a 15-13 5th ( R Krajicek v someone) set in the quarter finals - which is basically more games than 2 sets ! making it more than 6 sets in all !

I thought all Grand Slams were the same basis - but apparently not.  Mind you 5 set finals aren't common. Having said that there was a time before the seventies when there was no tie breaker in the other sets either. If that was still the case they would be still playing !!
