  1. note to the jealous canadian bill w: indonesia also has mor people, where are all of there medals. and china does NOT have more medals than us, check your facts before you answer so you won't look stupid.

now to answer the question, the obesity thing is way overblown by jealous people who hate the US. i work out 4 days a week, eat healthy foods, and stay in good shape. and i am a typical american, i am not the exception i am the rule. the image you have of alll, americans sitting around on fat butts eating fast food is a myth predicated by jealous foriegners

  2. While the obesity rates have gotten higher, there are still people out there who are NOT getting fatter because they are exercising and training.

  3. The technology and money we have to coach and train our athletes that have a natural ability is top notch.

  4. Only two countries have more people than the US (China and India) and China has more medals.  India is not trying to be a power in many sports.

The majority of the US is getting fatter, but there is a bigger pool to draw on for elite athletes who are exceptionally healthy.

  5. I agree with many of the other answers out there -- technology, money, large population, but I would also add one other.  If you look at our top athletes in many sports, they have emigrated from other nations.  In track, we have gotten some of the best runners and world-record holders from other nations like Morocco and Kenya.  In ping pong, we have had former Olympic medalists gain citizenship here.  Top coaches from other nations as well (Romanian gymnastics coaches, for instance) have come to this country to gain citizenship because of all of the opportunity and freedom we have here.  As long as the US is considered as one of the best places to live, we should continue to do well in the Olympics.

  6. money n steroids, just like most other american sports

  7. Because we are just the best.

  8. Freedom...I think it plays a huge role in our culture (US). Our athletes are not forced to compete and are not punished when they don't win.  Also, our society is very organized and we have a very high overall standard of living than most all other countries.

  9. because america rocks !! and because we have more money =]
