"Thou shall not murder", but in the same OT God commands people to murder others.

Unless you think that killing someone for speaking blasphemy or being pagan or wiccan is not murder....

  1. Hey Chippy give me some verses, so I can better understand what you are getting from them. I know in the O.T there were wars- God was on the side of those who followed Him, therefore many died who were the enemy- but that is not the same as going out and just killing someone. With wars it was different- there will always be wars because of sin, and it is man who stirs this up, and God is with those who put their trust in Him. (Just as many O.T scriptures explain God gave the victory to those whose faith was in Him) BUT do know many in the O.T did murder and this was not of God, they may have loved God and followed God but they also sinned. This shows that even those who love the Lord can still fall short at times. Look at King David, who when fell head over heels for Bathsheba ordered her husband to be put in the front line of the battlefield, knowing he would die. That was sin. David knew it was wrong and even felt horrible conviction over that- pleading to God for mercy and forgiveness. (You will find many Psalms written by him) Anyways give me some specific verses. Also note the NEW covenant through Jesus Christ....sin is sin in God's eyes, but through Jesus we have forgiveness when we put our trust in Him.

Do know there are MANY reasons and good reasons for what God does- He is Just, and He is in control, not us. His ways are better than our ways ( no matter how you look at it, in the end everyone will see and know Jesus is Lord) When things happened the way they did in the O.T this does not mean there was a different God at that time. It means His ways are above our ways, and we do not understand all his ways. God can strike whomever he wills. Since the coming of Jesus Christ, since salvation has come the Lord is being SO merciful, so full of mercy and grace, that the time is NOW to turn to Him! The time is now to understand who He is, and why we need His salvation. When God acts, He acts in JUSTICE and Righteousness. He defends Good. He is all good. And also whatever he does he does for the good of those who love Him as Romans 8 says.

The laws back then (such as stoning people) according to their breaking of the laws--just as today we have laws- do you agree with the death penalty? Do you realize this penalty is for justice not just for kicks? If someone goes out and murders someone without self defense, but just to do it well of course this is wrong. God knows EVERY intention of the heart. (Hebrews 4) He knows who are of Him and who are not of Him. So just as today's laws exist, and we must abide by them, so it was back in the O.T it was different then. So "murder" back then was not always the case in circumstances. Sometimes it was just like the death penalty we have today.  Does that make sense?

  2. When you buy a male Hebrew slave, he shall serve for six years, but in the seventh he shall go out a free person, without debt. If he comes in single, he shall go out single; if he comes in married, then his wife shall go out with him. If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the wife and her children shall be her master’s and he shall go out alone. But if the slave declares, ‘I love my master, my wife, and my children; I will not go out a free person’, then his master shall bring him before God. He shall be brought to the door or the doorpost; and his master shall pierce his ear with an awl; and he shall serve him for life.

When a man sells his daughter as a slave, she shall not go out as the male slaves do. If she does not please her master, who designated her for himself, then he shall let her be redeemed; he shall have no right to sell her to a foreign people, since he has dealt unfairly with her. If he designates her for his son, he shall deal with her as with a daughter. If he takes another wife to himself, he shall not diminish the food, clothing, or marital rights of the first wife. And if he does not do these three things for her, she shall go out without debt, without payment of money.

Whoever strikes a person mortally shall be put to death. If it was not premeditated, but came about by an act of God, then I will appoint for you a place to which the killer may flee. But if someone wilfully attacks and kills another by treachery, you shall take the killer from my altar for execution.

Whoever strikes father or mother shall be put to death.

Whoever kidnaps a person, whether that person has been sold or is still held in possession, shall be put to death. Whoever curses father or mother shall be put to death.

When individuals quarrel and one strikes the other with a stone or fist so that the injured party, though not dead, is confined to bed, but recovers and walks around outside with the help of a staff, then the assailant shall be free of liability, except to pay for the loss of time, and to arrange for full recovery.

When a slave-owner strikes a male or female slave with a rod and the slave dies immediately, the owner shall be punished. But if the slave survives for a day or two, there is no punishment; for the slave is the owner’s property. [Exodus, chapter 21]

  3. God commanded Moses to start a new covanent with the isrealites. In order to go into the promise land they were forbidden not to do those things.

  4. I'm not sure  but shouldn't you look and see if the New Testament gives the right to murder?  Remember in the OT . He was a jealous and vengeful god . That's why he sent his son for change. Believe me it kills me to even post this  because I was raised Christian but now Wiccan. I personally don't care because I follow Harm NONE and not  worry about it. But then again  I'm not  trying to recruit or change peoples minds to my religion but I will be fair to all .

  5. the bible is the most hypocritical book ever written

  6. God sends people to kill in war, but warfare is not murder.  Likewise, executing someone for breaking a law (such as the laws laid down in the OT) are also, by definition, not murder.

Wiccans are not mentioned in the Bible.  Please stop making things up.

  7. only the part written in red is considered to be originally said by jesus.....

  8. where in the OT does God command murder? i've read my bible...have you?

  9. Murder is killing without official sanction.  god sanctioned it so therefore it was not murder.  easy out.

  10. Because what they meant was, "do not murder, reserved for god only"

Take every single commandment and add  "reserved for god only" at the end, it fits perfectly with history and such.

  11. At least the OT God was the first one to say such a thing as "Thou shalt not kill".

  12. The Hebrew word here is to kill without just cause or good reason. Nice try but go a little deeper next time.
