How come the electrical outlets in my master bedroom do not work?

The electrical outlets in my master bedroom do not work, but all the lights and light switches do. In the attached bathroom, all the electrical outlets work fine. What could my problem be? Could it be a fuse or the circuit breaker?

  1. if you reset a breaker, then something tripped it, or had a fault

as for light and power on the same breaker circuit, generally you separate your lighting loads from your power loads

but i am with Jim W in that you probably have GFCI somewhere that has tripped and thus killing you bedroom circuit ( though in reality bathroom are supposed to have dedicated separate circuits from the bedroom, though in older house it wasn't the case )

  2. may be the problem with that particular switch, might be broken

  3. Check for tripped breaker in your panel.Sounds like it tripped out..

  4. Test and reset the GFCI outlet in your bathroom. If that fails, then inspect the receptacle nearest to the one that does work in the adjoining room.  Also inspect the receptacles in the adjoining rooms. Somewhere a wire is loose or broken. When inspecting the receptacles, observe the type of connection in each. If any have a push in type  "quick connection", replace it. These fail in the event of a heavy current draw.

  5. If it's new construction, the bedroom outlets will be on an AFCI type breaker.

    Make sure its been 'reset'.

  6. tripped breaker

  7. Check all GfCI receptacles, especially those located outside you home.  I have seen an outside one trip and they wired thru to the next room. No one ever thinks to look out there.  If that is not it, you probably should contact a qualified electrical contractor.  If you do not know of a qualified contractor contact your local IBEW. LIsted in the white pages, they will give you a list of qualified contractors.  If you are not qualified and trained you could get someone hurt or cause a fire.  Most people are just knowlegeable enough to be dangerous; if you have not had the training and are not confident in your ability do not go looking for trouble.  What you don't know can kill you!  You should do nothing more than reset the breakers and GFIC receptacles.

  8. if your sure its not a breaker, than find the one that controls that room and turn it off.if you then lose your light, than check the connectons there first

  9. First check that the outlets arent controlled by a switch.   Recheck and reset alll of your circuit breakers.  Sometimes one trips but is not obviously tripped.  If all of this fails, use a radio that works elsewhere to cofirm those that are out.  Then, you may have a loose wire.

NOTE: Turn off the main service and check all connections in the offending boxes. You probably have a loose connection either in one of the boxes or on the lead coming from the supply.  Hope it is one of the first simple items.  I hope this helps. Mike
