Why does every question I see have 5+ posting answers saying "DO NOT HOME SCHOOL YOU KID, IT WILL HURT THEM SOCIALLY" or "1 LUV PUBL1C SCH00L" or some other c**p like that?

  1. Jealousy, ignorance, boredom, nothing better to do than bash others for their efforts!

  2. Some people are just threatened by change or anything different.  I see this not just regarding homeschooling, but also charter schools.  The public school establishment is scared and does everything they can to publicize anything negitive about any alternative.

  3. I find that there are numerous sections in which people respond to questions simply by spewing venom in the guise of an opposing viewpoint.  As other posters have stated so well, I think of it as a daily reminder of the negativity, intolerance of viewpoints different from one's own, and the outright cruelty  from which we are able to  shield our children from when they are homeschooled (at least to some degree).

There is no need to poison their hearts in order to educate them (I always go back to the lab rats.....you don't have to be a rat to observe a rat's behavior and learn from it)  ...when they are older and more able to understand  the causes of especially bad human behavior, then they will be able to deal with it.   They will know right from wrong (and that there actually ARE absolutes) and who they are as INDIVIDUALS, and be able to rely on the  firm foundation provided by parents who are super involved and care.  Until then.....let them learn in an atmosphere of love and kindness and understanding and peacefulness.

  4. Because they just don't understand the beauty of actually getting a good education. They also don't understand that Homeschooling is a very social activity, and that every child learns differently, which is why public school doesn't work for everyone.

  5. Everyone seriously needs to report when the answers are seriously insulting or don't even answer a question. The rules now are that at least two people have to complain before they take any action to remove the offensive remark. I report when it is so off topic or blatantly offensive, not just when someone gives an opinion WHEN ASKED for one.

  6. i love being homeschooled i personally think my mom did me a HUGE favor by taking me out!

  7. I think teachers tend to feel threatened by homeschooling, or it's a way for them to take their frustrations out after a day at school.  I think we homeschool folks need to try to stop worrying about what the rest of the world thinks and just put all our energy into making the homeschool experience one of the best parts of childhood and parenting.

  8. I think it is mostly because they know that most of the people who come to this section are homeschoolers or homeschool supporters and they want to see what kind of reaction their comments will get. Then there are some people who have genuine concerns about homeschooling based on their personal thoughts and experiences, which would be fine to share if their opinions were actually asked for.

  9. It's kind of sad, isn't it? That these people spend their time spouting ignorance and attitude than true help?

  10. Because it truly is a very divisive topic.  People have very strong opinions about how and where to educate children.  And we're talking about our "future" here - people don't want to grow old and have a bunch of moronic ignoramuses running the country.

That's part of the reason why I haven't been around as much lately - too much negativity bringing me down and I felt compelled to "right" all the wrong info about homeschooling.  I was spending more time "defending" than helping.

  11. some other  c**p like that......your words.,,,you are closed minded,,,,get your claws out of your child, your a control freak!!!!!

  12. This seems to be pretty normal in several sections of this forum, unfortunately.

  13. Terribly sad.......people are more willing to over look to violence in the public schools and focus on the one strange HS kid they "knew when they were kids".......statistics speak for themselves folks! Do your research, and don't knock that which you know NOTHING about

  14. come on you home teachers, read the Q...honest grade please.....

  15. You think this site has hatred ever go into the political or religious parts? These guys are just misinformed the people in those areas are down right mean.

  16. I was homeschooled as a kid, and I guess it's because many people are ignorant about homeschooling, they believe many of the misconceptions about it, or it's anti-Christian hatred. There are many homeschooling families that are Christian.

  17. IDK!!! It is Dumb to say that! Homeschooled kids are smarter and Better Socialized!

  18. People have a negative attitude toward homeschooling for different reasons.

1- They are jealous because they wish they could do it.

2- They know someone who is homeschooled and isn't doing it right. ( For instance, they spend more time goofing off then school work, or they cheat,)  I know plenty of these and they do give homeschooling a bad name.

3- They think homeschoolers and their parents just want to be separate from the world.  True, in some cases, but not all.

People have similar attitudes toward private/Christian schools too. If you have made a decision to homeschool, don't listen to the negative remarks.  Find other homeschoolers and encourage each other.

  19. Just wait until the word gets around that the boy in PA, the one with all the guns, was homeschooled.

  20. I really don't know.  With all the emphasis our society puts on freedom to do whatever you want, whenever you want, with all the focus on tolerance for those who are different, or who make different choices than you, with all the emphasis on being open minded, one would think that people would extend a little of that courtesy to people who make different educational choices also.

  21. I just sit back and laugh to myself because, if I was a kid or parent living in the US, people like that would be the best advert for homeschooling I could ever hope to find.

Hopefully the homeschooling community in America realises that money can't buy them publicity like that.

If they're typical of the results of the US Public School system they claim is so good; and so beneficial; and has done so much to educate them; not to mention, to socialise them...well...hmm, if I was a parent in America, I'd pull my kids out of school so fast their feet wouldn't touch the ground...lol!

Oh, and as for that other chestnut, the one that goes: 'only teachers are qualified to teach', I just smile knowingly and recall the age-old saying: "People who can, do. People who can't, teach."

  22. I am against homeschooling because it is not properly regulated. There are many kids getting a great education at home. However there are far to many that are claiming to be homeschooled and are not. They are taken out of school because of a problem and their parents have no idea how to educate their child. The districts are not at all concerned with their education plan and approve anything. There are not enough checks and balances to make sure that the parents are doing the job that is expected of them.

  23. Oh, it's not confined to this section by any means - try reading some of the questions on bottlefeeding, or smacking, or weaning babies :)
