  1. I put the name plates on the halters of my race horses for exactly that reason, in case they get loose at the track.  It is also helpful if you have horses that look similar, have no distinct markings, etc.  For instance, I have 4 chestnut horses, all geldings, all with no white markings.  I keep the halters with the name plates on them so I dont confuse them when I am in a hurry.


  2. it's just something extra that you can do.  they don't have to have their name on their halter, but a lot of people do it just because they like their horse.  I think for racehorses it's probably useful since there's so many horses at the track... if one gets loose, you can tell who it belongs to easier if there's a name on the halter... or even if there's a number of horses out, you probably won't know all of them by their markings, so you can look at the halter.

  3. how come people have their names embroidered on idk, bags, clothing, or engraved on jewelry? its the same with horses, just because, unless you're at a huge stable, where you could lose it easily.
