How come the media always portrays images of superficial-looking women but not real women?

You see so many gorgeous looking women all the time (e.g. Halle Berry, Kim Kardashian, Lauren London, Beyonce, Nia Long, Carmen Electra).

There should also be real women like Camryn Mayheim.

Why is that?

  1. It's sad. Then people wonder why the women they see everyday don't look that way. They do it to men too though, all six packs and strong jaws.

  2. because they want to impose a perfect world when there really isn't. if they makes people perfect in real magazines then more people will pay and want to see the non-airbrushed and "real" stars in the trashy magazines. They want to create perfect and sell the non-perfect too. When you think about it we should be idolizing the doctors who save lives...

  3. Oh wow...only a "nice guy" will ask something like this.

It's simple, we, as humans, like looking at Beauty. Whether it be a woman, a flower or a ****** purple kitten, if it has beauty, we're going to look at it and like it.

This has nothing to do with imposing perfection on each other, conditions of a material shallow world, or any type of cliched c**p like that, that type of answer is for people who think too much into things and can't take a spade for a spade.

People like looking at beautiful ****. So if it's a woman, we look, if it's Brad Pitt, we look. If it's a Ferrari Enzo, we ****** look.

Tell me, would you look at something/someone you didn't consider beautiful long? I don't think so and if you do, you're one in a billion.

  4. the media also portrays images of superficial-looking men and not of real men

  5. because people want to watch attractive women.  It sells products.

Ever heard the expression every guy wants to be with her and every girl wants to be her.

  6. because s*x sells. it's horrible.  and really screws people up.  but hey.... people make money.  and that seems to be all that matters anymore.

  7. I think it is slowly changing . . . hey, at least you know who Camryn Mayheim is, right?  In another time or place, she might not have gotten all that far . ..

  8. Many of those women aren't nearly as attractive in real life. They're enhanced through makeup, flattering lighting, choice of clothing and hairstyles, and good camera angles. The best make up artists can make almost anybody look beautiful.

  9. I like attractive looking women

  10. Are you just now realizing this?

That's the materialized shallow world we live in.

  11. I am with Guns on this, and you need to remember that most  women also prefer good looking women.  All those magazines placed near the supermarket register and gossip shows all promote beautiful women because there is a demand, mostly from women, for it.

You also cannot claim that representations of men in the media are any better: the handsome, dignified and athletic dominate, and any average en are portrayed as gormless fools.  The media does not have any mandate or need to promote that which does not sell.

  12. well dude...with war in iraq, and unarmed humanitariun aid workers being beheaded on al-jazerra tv, we here in the states were focussed on paris hiltons in-and-out jail fiasco, and britney's shaved head , and who wore the worst dress to whatever award show. this is what our media believes we value. with "reality tv" (what an oxymoron) running rampant it seems like our values have been scattered to the wind, and the character of our nation seems to be changing to one of superficiality. if your a family person wanting to raise your children with a general judeo/christian ethic of traditional family values, then the same media says you have barbaric values...im not kidding, so the "why only skinny beautiful women...?" well its not THE problem but a symptom of a much much larger problem.

  13. When it comes to the hierarchy of sellouts it goes like this:

    1. The current administration

    2. Media

    3. American corporations

    4. the American people

    5. last but not least Punk bands of the 80's
