the water in my house doesn't get hot. (except the dish washer) it gets warm, but not warm enough where i could enjoy a nice shower. I've checked the pilot light and its just fine. is there anything else that might prevent the water to be cold?

  2. Sounds like your hot water heater has accumulate a lot of corrossion - this can pile up in the bottom and make it difficult to heat.  It could also be a plugged up o*****e.  This is essentially the burner - which has litle holes that let out the gas and then is ignited.  These can get plugged up.. Not know the age of the water heater - it is difficult to say for sure.  It could also be the thermostat.  Do you have that set to the hottest setting?  And you should hear it come on when the burner comes on, right there where you are seeing the pilot. -- There is also a sensor there that detects if the pilot it lit - if that fails - it won't turn on the main burner for safety reasons.  If you have difficulty with any of this - I would suggest contacting a qualified plumber to check this out for you as working with a gas water heater can be dangerous.

  3. Maybe your water heater isn't big enough. Are you using the washing machine and or the dishwasher before your shower? Are there others using the shower too.
