How come there's no 6 or 7 passenger minivan that gets more than 30 mpg?

  1. Because its a large vehicle that weighs a lot.  So it takes a certain amount of gas to move it forward.

    Dont get me wrong- I think they should be able to do it too, and thats what I would have gotten if one was available.  But Minivans arent big sellers, so car companies will likely focus on getting their other segments fuel efficient first, before they move on to the slower sellers like Mini vans


  2. because engines are designed to be balanced between Power, emissions, Fuel economy, and the cost to manufacture.

    It is well known that less polluting gasoline required in some high smog areas reduces gas mileage.

    If a larger van had a really small engine, it could get better mileage but it would be so slow and underpowered the public would not accept it.

    There are replacement parts like free flowing exhaust and intake systems that improve performance and mileage.  They have been around for decades and hot rodders have used them, and only now are car companies using these techniques to improve mileage and power, because these parts cost more than the standard cast iron and stamped Steel parts used by the factories
