How come there is not much racial diversity in some parts of Northeast England?

  1. Regardless of race, immigrants tend to migrate to places that have some attraction for them whether it be availability of jobs, the state of the economy, quality of life, culture, etc.

    Now consider the above factors in relation to Sunderland and Middlesbrough and you'll see why these places do not have much racial diversity in comparison to, say, London or Manchester.


  2. I think theres plenty of Racial Diversity here in Sunderland I mean look at Hendon for example...

    Theres plenty of culture up here too, and the north-east is a very beautiful place full of history the only thing is the south is much more popular as it's advertised more therefore not many people in the world know where Sunderland and Newcastle is on a map of England, plus the weather's terrible up here most of the time and if I was moving to a different country I wouldn't want to move to a place where it rains 24/7

  3. The South and London in particular has always been where most people start out when they come to England.  Historically, the further north you go the less employment is available and the lower the quality of life.

    So I imagine that the average immigrant had no particular reason to head too far north.  This is perhaps reflected in the racial diversity the further north you go today.
