I live in a diverse neighborhood, asians, blacks, whites, and hispanics.

But right now most are alarmed and now am even kinda afraid to go out doors!! There is this racist white guy who tried to rape a black teen girl seven days ago. Lucky her she got away and was able to do a police report, and they told everyone to be watchful when you go out. And she was at the park around 9am!! Just exercising and could of been ruined for life.

But now am thinking,....how come this didn't make the news?

If it was a racist black guy, who tried to rape a teenage white girl.....do you think they would have it on the news everywhere? Yes or no?

  1. it didn't make the news?  how did you find out about it?  perhaps you should contact your local news station and pass the information along.  news people can't be aware of things unless the people involved tell them.  perhaps white people are more diligent in reporting things to the news.

  2. I know. It's very frustrating.

Part of this is due to the "pretty girl" or "missing white woman syndrome". That's when the media pays an inordinate amount of attention to crime or missing person's cases as long as it's someone who is young and female and considered attractive. It's as if no one else matters. People who are male, older, or from racial minorities are often ignored by the media and law enforcement when such things happen to them.

Also, I can't help but think, too, that sometimes the media is reluctant to report on black women being victims of crime because of high profile cases like Tawana Brawley back in NYC in the 80s or the recent stuff with the Duke LaCrosse team where it turned out it was a false report.  Unfortunately, it's those who cry "wolf" who make it bad for everyone else...and now real victims are less likely to be believed because of that.

You might want to call your local newspaper or TV station and ask them why they didn't report on it.  That might be the thing to make them speak up.

  3. Sadly, I think the black guy raping the white girl would be on all the local stations.

I can't believe the police didn't do anything. That's dangerous, to have him running around!!!!

Always walk with someone. Never go out when it's dark unless you're in a group with 3 or more people.

Keep a phone on you at all times, and try to pick up some self defense moves.

  4. Unbelievable!

A crime is a crime, regardless of race!

Where in the U.S. did this happen?

You can e-mail CNN & let them know what happened, this has to be brought to the forefront!

Unfortunate as this story is, 9 times out of 10, it didn't make the news simply because the victim is Black & the criminal/perpetrator is White!

    Wrong is wrong!

I am outraged, to say the least!

    The media are TOTALLY biased!

It seems as if White is the preferred color of the masses, so therefore White people are portrayed as wholesome & upstanding!

Yet Black people are deemed evil & sadistic!  The epitome of everything bad!

WE as a country, especially Americans must continue to challenge any system/instuition which depicts one group/race of individuals as Inferior/Superior!
