  1. We have to get visas to travel, there are certain countries we're not allowed to travel to (like Cuba), and there are certain countries where anti-American sentiment is so high, it would be dangerous to go there.

  2. Welcome to the land of the FREE

  3. Most countries "entry" procedures for non-citizens is the same no matter what country you're coming from. There are certain countries that might place restrictions on specific countries, but those are political reasons. For example, Cuba won't allow any Americans (so we actually can't go anywhere we want) to visit because of political differences and China use to have the same ban. Most of the time though restrictions are the same across the board, the US rarely gets "special" treatment like you're describing.

Just like every other country Americans even have to have a "visa" in order to enter the US, it's called a passport. ;)

  4. Depends on the government.

And I wouldn't say you can go ANYWHERE.. maybe legally you can, but certain countries are not safe to visit.

  5. well its because every country is different. I am sure soon the united states will be the same way.. but until then it is because we have "freedom" and other countries do not have the priveledge

  6. Why don't you go to Sudan or Madagascar and find out

  7. You're wrong, we can't.

Americans need visas to travel to some countries exactly the same as other citizens sometimes do.

If you've traveled under a visa waiver program then that country will have a reciprocal arrangement with the US for it's own citizens so you get nothing that they don't get.

My husband who is English doesn't need a visa to travel to the US, he uses the visa waiver program.

Before I was allowed to reside in England I used the same program to pass through immigration here.

I wasn't simply "allowed" in by virtue of being an American and I had to apply for the right to live here the same as anyone else and the same as people who want to live in the US do.

  8. Simple answer -- we cannot.

  9. There are many countries Americans AND Canadians and U.K citizens can travel to without a visa...but there are many countries we do need a visa to go to.  The only countries I know of who currently do not ALLOW their  own citizens to travel freely are Cuba and North Korea.  If YOU wish to travel to Russia, China,Brunei, North Korea...and a number of other countries...you will find you need a visa...and they are complicated and often difficult to get.

  10. we still need our passports  to go over seas France and england does ask for passports if you enter there countrys .

    born in the usa but

I Live  in France and flies back in forth to the usa a lot  and i'm always asked for my passport

  11. we need visas to travel to many places. I am trying to get on to Eritrea and they giving us trouble.

it was almost impossible to get a visa in new zealand and ended up with a 7 day travel visa and the night before the visa was to expire (and i was to fly out the next day) they called my hotel (we were required to give a phone number) to remind us that our visa is expiring in less than 24 hours and to GET OUT!

  12. Have you been abroad?? you can't go hardly anywhere without a visa. in fact security to go abroad is more strict for Americans than any other nationality especially for asia and africa. I went to Africa with a group of people from England, America, Scotland and France and there was never a problem with any visas apart from the Americans they had to take a whole different route because they weren't allowed in 3 countries just because they were American. I'm sure that just going to canada of countries near your continent is easier but try travelling further a field and i'm sure you'll have more of a problem.

  13. You cannot go anywhere .Try going to Asia.

  14. How come know it alls like you, give Americans a bad name?

  15. Not true, Americans cannot go anywhere they want without a Visa...

  16. thats completly not true its just as hard for americans as it is for anyone else, and its canadians that can go anywhere, im canadian and i cant remember the last time i had to pay for a visa we always get them for free, and actually some places americans have to pay more to get a visa for a country

  17. Well, my dear, you are misinformed. I am american and I have to get a Visa to go visit my inlaws in Russia.  There are just some countries that dont' require and some that do - England and france don't, but Peru and Russia and Turkey do.... you have to find out which countries require Visas to enter them before you visit.
