How come we choose from just two people for President and fifty for Miss America? ?

Because we still use the electoral process that was in effect two centuries ago. We need to modernize the elections, starting with ending the electoral college. Also, the parties that are set up are the ones with the most money. Technically, as with any public office, anyone can run as long as they meet age, citizenship, and criminal record requirements. Since the Democrats and Republicans have all the money and power, you don't see the other candidates unless you really seek them out. In recent years, there have actually been four groups garnering national attention. The Green Party and Libertarians are slowly gaining followings. Also, outside of political parties, anyone can run as an Independent. I honestly don't think Miss America will be around for very much longer. As a society, most of us are above pageantry, are we not?

Well, we pick from a little more than two. There are the begining people too. MIss America is way less important too.
