  1. The way the software works, it synchronizes your music library on your computer with the library on your Zune.  Since it makes the libraries the same, when you delete music from your computer it will also be deleted from your Zune.  There may be a way to set it up so that it doesn't sync that way, but I don't know specifically how to do it with the Zune software.  Look for an option that lets you manually control the syncing, that may help.

  2. Update your firmware to 2.5. Connect your Zune and open the Zune program. Click on device>settings>sync options and set the sync options to allow you to choose. It should allow you to delete music from your computer and keep it on your Zune. Try it with one song as some people find this still doesn't work for them.

If space on your hard drive is the reason for deleting the music I suggest you consider getting an external hard drive and move your files to it instead of deleting the music or backing the music up somehow. If you ever have to erase the content and resync it, sync a new zune, or reformat your device having the music backed up somewhere will come in handy.

  3. Zune uses the concept of 'Monitored Folders' to make music/video/picture/podcast synchronization simpler for users.  The idea is that you can save music into your default folder and Zune will pick it up for you.  Some users prefer to manually manage their own files.

You can easily change this in 2 ways:

    1) Go to 'Settings' at the top right of the Zune software. Select 'Device' at the top, and the 'Sync Options' category on the left. You will see a radio button selection for 'Sync All' or 'Let me choose' for each type of file.  For music, you may prefer to select 'Let me choose' so the sync is not automatic.

    2) Go to 'Settings' again. In the 'Software' section at the top, and the 'Collection' area on the left, click the 'Remove' button next to the monitored music folders.  Now you will need to manually drag music into the Zune software.  This also means that you will not lose music when you change folders.

    Hope that helps!
