Question:

How come when I run my lungs get tired so much faster than my legs?

I'm in cross country and when I run it gets hard to breath at like a mile and a half and I feel like I need to walk but my legs aren't tired in the least bit. Is it just an endurance problem and it will get better the more I run? Or do I need to go to the doctor and get checked for asthma? Maybe if there is even some breathing exercises I could do?

I know It's a lot of questions, don't feel like you have to answer all of them by any means.

  1. Breathe slowly and deeply, and try not to gasp. When you take a break, breathe slowly through your nose. If you do all these things and still feel like you're chocking/drowning, you should get checked for respiratory problems.

  2. 1) Try to breathe slowly when you run

    2) Breathe slowly through your nose when in rest or a break

    3) Don't think about it so much

    4) Ask your fellow couch

    5) Drink lots of water and don't talk so much

    6) Pace yourself

    7) Ask your peers (friends) about it and if it has ever happened to them and if it did how did they stop it

    8) ask lots of people and get a different thing to try each time something does not work.

    9) Here are some people to ask:

    Mom

    Dad

    Brothers or Sisters

    Friends

    Family

    Neighbors

    On line other people

  3. Just keeping running and it will get easier. There are always going to be obstacles to overcome. Next your legs might get sore while your breathing is easier.

  4. it could be that your legs are better "trained" or in better shape than your lungs. if it doesn't get better in a lil bit, i would go to the doc's and ask him about it. also, you could talk to your coach.
