Question:

How come when I stick a 9V battery in my mouth?

It will shock my tongue, but I can put alot of A's C's and D's in and nothing!

  1. We've probably all done this at some point.

    It's the voltage - the higher the voltage, the greater the shock.

    This is actually bypassing your own nervous system, and firing the muscles to contract by themselves.

    DO NOT PUT BATTERIES IN YOUR MOUTH ! - (didn't your parents tell you? )


  2. In order for you to feel it the two poles must be close enough and your saliva must conduct enough electricty to allow a circuit to form.  The poles on the AAAs, AAs and Ds would be too far apart for this circuit to form.

  3. Careful doing that kills about six people a year...But to answer your question probably because you are being zapped with both the positive and the negative at the same time...since they are on the same side on a 9v.

  4. Because the 9V battery is the only one that has both posts on the same side where you can complete a circuit with your tongue. If you rigged the other batteries where both posts would touch your tongue at the same time, you would feel the same sensation.
