How come when i burn a movie to dvd with srt i get symbols like # ?

They appear at the beginning and end of each subtitle that appears on the screen.

Open the srt in a text editor.  If there's anything other than the text there, mystery solved.  If not, that's very weird and it's probably that DVD player or your DVD authoring software.
