  1. Because Exxon-Mobile is making Billion dollar profits.

Its becuase of speculators.  The commodities market investors are hanging on to their oil futures like a life jacket in a flood.  Thats forcing the price of oil higher and higher, as theres much more being bought than sold.   Years ago, there werent as many people in the market as there is today.  Many people with their 401k and other fund accounts dont even realize that at least a portion of their portfolio is in oil and staying there, also keeping oil prices artificially high.
