Question:

How come when you ask a question about horses?

i can understand that people warn others about buying horses with out being educated on the matter, or against doing unsafe things. ( i do agree with that)

but when you ask a question about a specific topic, you have to put every thing you already know before(if at all) people will answer that question?

i know alot of the basic thing/riding, (been riding since i was 6, btw i'm 22 now) but when i ask a question about buying, leasing, prices, ect... i get everyone telling me what i should know before buying/leasing/prieces/ect, and not even comming close to answering the question.

is there an easy way to ask a question here, with out telling my life's story, to get a direct answer to a specific question?

  1. Because a lot of unexperienced  people ask questions and just dont know the "basics" and responsible horse people want to beginners to stay safe so they try to cover all the basis before giving advice. Not everyone realizes that horses are a big commitment and can be very dangerous.

I dont know how much experience someone has w/ horses unless I ask and because most people dont give that up front it is safer to assume that they dont.

  2. hahahaha. its true! sometimes horse people think that the people on here asking the questions dont know anything about horses. maybe if you told them about your riding experience then they would know just to answer the question. but it does get frusturating :]

  3. I know what you mean - sometimes it's like information overload isn't it. I suppose it all depends on who's answering.

There's no easy way I'm afraid.

  4. From all that I have seen on here the answer to your question is no. Sorry. That's why I ask questions about experiences, mostly. I personally try to answer directly as possible, maybe that's why I get some of the thumb downs that I get. I would try to figure out how to ask the question and give enough details to get you by. And, from then on its just weeding out the bs from the real answers. Luck

  5. sometimes. some people here just have bad eyes and can't read well, they are called trolls here. the reputable answerers here are usually noticable and you can easily interpret the good ones here from the bad. i personally try to answer each specific answer with a specific answer pertaining to that question.

  6. Umm, well i would try several things to get an answer

    i would check google

i would use Yahoo Answers ( ask question more than once)

i would just type in the question one different search engines

  7. I can get frustrated as an answerer with questions that aren't clearly stated.  The writing and grammar are so poor that it's like reading a foreign language and I sometimes try to "guess" what the asker wants to know.  I have many decades of horse experience and I want to share what I know, but first, people have to be clear on the information they want.  But explaining what you need to know on a subject BEFORE they answer the question is probably a normal reaction.  After all, none of us knows each other and we have to assume how much you know or don't know or you wouldn't be asking.

  8. A lot of what is put up here is repetitous to the extreme. So answerers tend to say the same thing, assume the same things for every poster. I asked a question once, just wanting to know what others would do in a similar situation and I got almost to every single answerer what I should be doing, not what they would do. And then there are those who enjoy this forum as their personal soap box or advertisement for their services or abilities. But there are those who try and answer as well as they can according to what is asked and sometimes more info is truly needed.

  9. The simple answer is no.

A lot of people don't really read the entire question before they answer. They are just looking for an easy 2 or possibly 10 points. They just guess off of the little bit that they do read.

I would put a very basic question. Like, just simply the question. And then add details when they are needed.
