In France for the Baccalauretate you need at leats 50% in your total mark to pass, some subjects carry more points than other subjects, so for example if you get 30% in one subject and 50% 5 subjects you fail the whole exam.

  1. Because A levels are examined differently to the Baccalauretate.

Its a different qualification issued by a different examining bodies and taken in different countries therefore its fairly inevitable that the pass rates are going to be different.

It is my understanding also that the Bacc. is the only set of exams frech students sit in the whole life span of their education. so it carries quite alot of weight, whereas in the UK we take exams mid way through senior education, at the end of our senior education and then at the end of AS levels and the end of A levels, so those many little steps all help towards passing the A level, im not saying they count marks from your AS levels or whatever because they dont but what I mean is the ground knowledge of a subject has already been examined in AS level years unlike the Bacc.
