  1. Not all members are here to share knowledge. A big part only wants to discuss current issues, many don't have any ideological clue or political insight, they just like a specific candidate. Therefore even if they wanted to ask or answer a more thought provoking question they couldn't do it. Time is also often a consideration I believe. Too many are happy with the two points and not prepared to make an effort.

It's also true hot button issues are often easy and appealing to answer, I do them too, in Dutch they call it "the delusion of the day". Yahoo answers is not the only place where that happens. Even the highest politicians often react to news reports instead of having a coherent philosophy or longterm vision. That's one of the biggest flaws of contemporary politics in my opinion.

I'm familiar with the main ideologies, Nationalism, Liberalism in the classical sense, of course socialism and American liberalism. I believe Marx was right in his analysis but underestimated the willingness and ability of the ruling elite to compromise, mislead and or bribe sections of the working class. I'd prefer a mixed economy as long as that's compatible with social justice and I mean real social justice. More and more I doubt if that's possible and if a purely socialist alternative isn't better. I haven't reached a conclusion yet. For better or worse I sometimes enjoy luxery and don't know how prepared I would be to give it up for the common good. I still don't know at this point but it's clear something has to change and capitalism will not do.

Half the world — nearly three billion people — live on less than two dollars a day.

The GDP (Gross Domestic Product) of the 41 Heavily Indebted Poor Countries (567 million people) is less than the wealth of the world’s 7 richest people combined.

Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.

Less than one per cent of what the world spent every year on weapons was needed to put every child into school by the year 2000 and yet it didn’t happen.

1 billion children live in poverty (1 in 2 children in the world). 640 million live without adequate shelter, 400 million have no access to safe water, 270 million have no access to health services. 10.6 million died in 2003 before they reached the age of 5 (or roughly 29,000 children per day).

  2. You should realize that humanity consists of many levels of consciousness and that the vast majority of people have no interest in dissecting anything, let alone politics.
