  1. Because they are unsafe at highway speeds, and on the highway, the extra weight of a battery and electric motor hurts MPG. They really are a city commuter car. Plus they are horrible in the snow. Those little tires with low rolling resistance wont make it anywhere.

People are finding out they are all they are advertised

  2. People realized that they don't save money and the $4,000 batteries need to be replaced after a certain mileage. Around 100,000 miles I think.

For example, the Honda Fit is not a Hybrid, but it will save you more money than the Toyota Prius. And the Honda looks better and is number one in reliability.

  3. There are many reasons...

One being the older Prius does not get the same gas mileage as a newer one.  Therefore people buy a newer model.

A 2001-2004 model more than likely have a lot of mileage on them because the Prius is meant to drive.  So after 100-150,000 miles the owners want a newer car.

People bought them thinking they could afford them, but they couldn't and either traded them in or had them repo'ed.

The Pruis is the hottest car around, and there are reports of dealerships calling owners to buy the car from them for more than they paid to sell it for a higher amount.  I brand new Prius costs about $22K.  Look in the used section, you will find used Prius cars for $25k-$29K.

There have been no reports of major problems with these cars.  Plus they are made by Toyota, the most reliable car company in the world, and its lineup doesn't include just one car!! (Honda's lineup is:  Civic coupe, Civic sedan, Civic Hybrid, Civic Si....wow such a diverse list!)

  4. because toyota prius is a rubbish car.people buy then coz they look good but then have problems with them and try to sell

  5. If I had to guess I would actually say that it has more to do with the sheer quantity rathery than a lack of quality.  The prius was originally sold well below top value to help boost popularity of hybrid vehicles for toyota.  They also were early into the market so they have larger numbers on the road.  I haven't heard of any siginifcant problems with the prius; however, like all hybrids their battery life is finite (approx. ten years).  Also real world fuel efficiency of most hybrids is not siginificantly better than your average four cylinder.  The threat of large battery purchases, initially high costs on hybrids, environmental damage as a result of battery production largely offset the benefits of hybrid vehicles.  Real world fuel efficiency of my buddy 2006 civic hybrid 36 mpg real world efficiency of my wifes 2004 camry 4cyl 31 its important to note that our car is much heavier, much larger, and somewhat older with a 5mpg difference.  I don't have to worry about batteries, electric motors, or sophisticated computer systems.  A lot of people are taking note of this and many seem to be moving from the hybrid route which could also lead to more used hybrids.  If you are interested in information about reliability of the prius try www.edmunds.com and research used cars you can read reviews from consumers, editors, and j.d. power.  Hope this helps you some.
