How comes EVERYYBODY i know who is mixed in two countrys alwayss seems to look like more there moms race than there dads! i have honestlyy noticed this.. and trust me i know lots of mixed people

there mothers features seem to be more strong, if you know what i mean.

by the way i don't mean mixed black and white (black is too much of a strong gene) i mean mixed like italian and irish. for example lindsay lohan - the freckles, red hair, green eyes.. her mom is irish, her dad is italian, her, her bro, and her sis all look extremely irish!

is it because you only have your moms mitchondrial dna?

  1. Barbie, not to insult you, but you are basing your conclusion only on limited experience and not facts.

Appearance is unreliable as any proof of someone's ancestry. Everyone has equal parts of each ancestor, although certain features may show up either way.  MANY Irish persons have black hair, and no freckles at all (including my son in law, who was born there).

  2. I haven't noticed that at all.  Most of your DNA is autosomal, not Y or mitochondrial.

You get autosomal 50-50 from both parents and it is prevalent in determining your pigmentation(skin, hair and eye coloring) , height etc.

Actually as you go back the number of people you directly descend from pyramids.  If you get back to your 6xgreat grandparents, you are directly descended from 510 individuasl, barring any duplicates.

You have mitochondrial DNA from 8 of those people and if you are a male, Y DNA from 8.  However, you have autosomal DNA from all 510.  Autosomal is the only DNA that relates a female to her father of anybody to the spouses and their families of their direct male in the Y line  and direct female line in the mitochondrial line  ancestors.

Also in many cases the recessive genes that one or both of your parents have but doesn't show up in their appearance will show up in you.   So it is really a toss up.

I have blue eyes and skin cancer type complexion like my father.  My 2 sisters tanned very well,  better than either parent.  My younger has brown eyes like my mother.  The 2 of us have the same facial shape and the nose of our paternal grandmother.  My older sister was hazel eyed and she looked more like my mother's youngest sister than she did either one of my parents.  The recessive genes my mother carried showed up in her.

My paternal grandmother was brown eyed and dark haired.  She had 5 children by my grandfather, 3 of which had brown eyes and dark hair like her and 2 had blue eyes and light hair like my grandfather.
