Question:

How common is it becoming for people to not be able have a bank account in the UK?

here in the US, it has become somewhat of a privelage almost it seems for those at the bottom.

has it become that way yet in the UK?

why and how so in your opinion?

  1. In UK there is a special account that can be opened by those who are for want of a better word a bad risk. I don't know the full details but they can not overdraw and you can not use a bankers card to make purchases.

    We happily grumble about the system here but i think it is more gentlemanly than in the US for the time being anyway. You have to be a real bad customer for them to just close your account  


  2. Not very common at all. We have so many competing banks, that it is very easy to transfer or open a new bank account with another bank if yours refuses to serve you. Many also offer basic bank accounts, which don't require credit checks, so even if you get in to financial difficulty with one, you can still move to another. Having a bank account is essential to modern living here in Britain

  3. Well its called being responsible with your money and not going over your means. You can open a 2nd chance account if this has happened to you. However it is very limited and has extremely strict rules.
