How common is it for a musician to give their instrument a personal name?

I'm just wondering....I think among professional musicians it's quite common, but if any of you play any kind of musical instrument....have you ever felt so emotionally close to it that you actually gave it a personal name? Do you ever sleep with it? (OK! I know! Weird!)

My kids' local band director (teaching at our local school for 20 years now) told me outright that she named her instrument when she got it.

I'm just wondering how common it is in general student practice.

I never named any of my instruments. However, my wife has named all of hers and some of mine.  It may be a little on the weird side, but no stranger than people who name their cars, boats, or what ever else.

Also, I know that a lot of rock artists have named some of their guitars.  It depends on how special they feel the instrument is.

i sleep with my violin before recitals and performances..

i named her ziggy..

I play guitar, and even though its cheap cause i cant afford another right now, i love it, but i wouldnt name it. Thats a bit on the odd side.
