  1. Over the counter cough suppressants never contain it, as it is a controlled substance. Most OTC cough syrups contain Dextromethorphan, which is a safer, but inferior substance. Ironically, used by teenager to get high.

    For prescription cough syrups, it is very common, as codeine is one the best suppressants we have.

  4. This is prescribed quite frequently for chronic coughs. It is supposedly the best cough suppressant.
