  1. Most kids will spread their wings & leave home once they have the opportunity to do so; however, many of the people I know have attempted to return to our hometown w/o success.

I moved away from my hometown right after graduating from high school. After an absence of 10 years, I tried to move back to be near my family. I was miserable b/c many of my old friends had moved on with their lives - either in town or out of town. Unless you know someone-who-knows-someone, you are pretty much out of luck with finding a decent job. I lasted three years that first time and only three months the last time I tried.

Needless to say, I have discovered that I am much happier where I am now - about 4 hours away from my family. I'm still in a big enough area where work can be found, but still close enough to drive home on the spur of the moment to visit. I have even made the roundtrip in one day just because I wanted to see my family.  ..

  2. it's not only common but normal

  3. I live in a rather small and isolated community. Okay, it's a remote place and it shouldn't be here. Anyway, I've watched young people leave here for many years. About half of them return with in less than 10 years. But that's this area. I'm sure other regions are different.

  4. Wait until you are finished college and then go back for a nice long visit and see if you still want to move back there.
