  1. they can be very correct jus depends on the baby really.

my friend got told she was having a boy and bought loads of blue stuff and had a girl at birth. so make sure you know the person scanning you is 100% sure aswell as you.

p.s dnt thumb down me people there no need for it. it has happend and does happen.

  2. Apperently if they tell you your having a boy there 90%chance of them being right cause they've clearly seen something...

If they tell you its a girl there's still 40% chance there wrong as they could have just missed it :)

They were right with my daughter... we'll see if there right this time round with my son :)

  3. the scans are almost always accurate, i do not know anyone who has been told wrong in the past 15 years.

  4. My 1st one at 20wks they said boy and I had no doubt they were wrong..rescheduled about 2 weeks later and sure enough GIRL

2nd was twins and it was very obvious at 16weeks both were boys

Last one we found out at about 21 weeks and it was very obvious another boy

  5. pretty effective at 20 weeks

  6. 98%

    hope this helps good luck

  7. Most of the time they are right but NOT always.

my sisters work partner was told she was going to have a girl, she chose a name, was calling her bump the name, was telling everyone, bought EVERYTHING in pink. When she gave birth it was a boy. Big shock especially because he had to go home in pink clothes, a pink carseat and everything.

I would personally not want to know the s*x because you could get too attached and if its wrong u could be really disappointed. Also it makes the birth more exciting!!

  8. i've never heard of a scan of the s*x of a baby turning out to be the opposite so if you scan at twenty weeks it should be pretty clear if it's a boy or a girl. the doctor or nurse should be able to tell the difference.

  9. They have been dead on with all 3 of my babies.

  10. they told me i was having a boy then about 2 weeks later i had a 3d altrasound and it was def. a boy

  11. They're probably along the lines of 98% I think...  I can't tell you if they're right about me yet or not (I'm not due for another 5 and a half weeks) but I've known a couple people who were told they were having a girl and had a boy or vice versa.

  12. When you've got a good dr doing the scan, they are pretty effective. If the baby cooperates. Mine have all been correct. I find out next month what this one will be. YAH!

  13. the only way i could see it being wrong is if you are having a girl..a boy is pretty obvious...but at 20 weeks you should be fine!! thats the perfect time to find out =)

  14. At about 5 Months Pregnant. Hmmm

    Read This:

There is no definite estimate of exactly how accurate ultrasound is at detecting disabilities, and there are both false negatives and false positives.

As far as detecting fetal abnormalities goes, several points have to be bornt in mind :

    a) Not every problem can be diagnosed with ultrasound -- conditions which do not manifest as a structural or gross functional abnormality (such as a very abnormal heart beat or mental retardation) may be missed.

    b) Not every problem which can be detected will be diagnosed. For example, in many ultrasound examinations the baby's fingers and toes are not counted, even though it is possible to do so should it be necessary.

    c) The ability to detect abnormality in the fetus at an ultrasound exam depends on a number of factors, such as the size and position of the fetus, the amount of amniotic fluid around the fetus, the body habitus of the mother (whether she is fat or slim), the type of equipment used, and, most importantly, the skill and experience of the operator.

    d) Some problems (such as anencephaly) are more readily diagnosed than others (such as cleft palate).

The accuracy of ultrasound for dating a pregnancy depends on at what point during the pregnancy the ultrasound is taken. Pregnancy dating is most accurate during the first eighteen weeks of pregnancy. Measurement of the sac at five to seven weeks is not accurate. Measuring the crown-rump length gives an accuracy of plus or minus three days at seven weeks; this test can be used from the seventh to the fourteenth week. Between fourteen and twenty-six weeks, measurements of the biparietal diameter, the femur length and abdominal circumference are generally used. The accuracy is plus or minus seven to ten days. The accuracy further declines with advancing gestation age.

  15. they are normally able to tell at 20 weeks but if the baby is laying funny it may be wrong but they will tell you if their not sure

  16. If your tech is good then its pretty good! Just make sure if you dont see a p***s that DOESNT mean its a girl! For a girl you have to see the 3 lines...(l) I think like that!

Its easier to mistake a boy for a girl then the other way around! If they say boy then you are probably good!  They have never messed up anybody I know!

  17. It really depends on how your baby is sitting. Drink a lot of water before you go and walk lots to make your baby move into a good position. Ask the ultrasound tech how sure they are. Mine said 99% so I think we are good. If you want to be reassured then go for a 3d at about 30 weeks.

  18. Pretty accurate..almost 98%

Infact my US tech told me I am having twin boys during my 13 week scan itself.. I am hoping she is wrong...

  19. With my son they were right, they said a boy. This time they said a girl, and I had another a few weeks later and it was still a girl. I think they are pretty accurate.

  20. My scan at 20 weeks showed a little girl, and a follow-up scan at 24 also revealed a little girl. No questions asked, there were no little boy parts present.
