I have a Mitsu. With a PO300 code, I have heard that it could be caused by the Distributor and wanted to know if there is anyway that I would be able to check it. Also if anyone has any information on what could cause a PO300 (Random Multiply Misfire) codes to come up please let me know, I have been trying to get it fixed for the last month now. Thank You

  1. Your Eclipse does not have a distributor.  P0300 is a random cylinder misfire code.  If you don't have individual cylinder misfire codes along with that (P0301 thru P0306) then this can be a bugger to diagnose and may not be occurring frequently enough to be a real concern.

Spark plugs are supposed to be replaced on this engine every 30k miles.  Nobody does it though because to reach them you have to pull the intake manifold which means it costs more than people want to spend to have a shop do it and is too difficult for many DIY'ers.  If you have not had the plugs replaced in the last 30k miles and you have a P0300 code you should start by replacing the plugs, then clearing the code and seeing if it returns.

    There's your problem right there.

Get rid of that V-Power c**p and put the plugs in that your engine was designed to run on.  I see more drivability problems from people switching to some fancy aftermarket spark plug with a big advertising budget than any other single cause.  Use the OEM Nippondenso or a standard resistor NGK plug and I bet your problem goes away.
