How could I compare the book Siddhartha and Lord of the Flies?

I need to compare these two books for an essay. How could i set it up or what are some things they have in common?

  1. Hi Daniel,

    Yes, both young men had epiphanies about life, but more specifically:  both Siddhartha and the boys from LOTFs went to their very roots to discover something fundamental about humanity and themselves.  Both were stripped of all society, cultural cues, "right" and "wrong", material objects, basic necessities of life - and only when they were completely alone did they understood who they really were.  That is what the comparison is about.  If you want a great essay, ask yourself what it was that the protagonists from each story discovered about themselves; was it good, or bad; was it the same truth or different truths?  And if (by chance) they were opposite truths - how can they both be right?  Good luck.


  2. Aren't both these books about young males who experience epiphanies about life though powerful experiences? They both are about the gaining of insights and maturity through their journeys. Is that enough to get you started?
