I would love to dance on a dance team at my college (Cal Poly SLO) as a way to get in shape, make friends, and be involved with school. I love to dance, but just don't have the skills to try out. I have 2 years of beginning ballet experience, and one year of jazz. Problem is that was 3 years ago and that is the extent of my experience. How could I go about maintaining my goal to join college dance team?

  1. It depends on how competitive your school's team is.  At some colleges the dance team may compete at NDA competitions and I'm sure they would require you to be in shape already, and have years of formal training.  At my college you had to be between 5'7" and 5'9" only.

I don't know about Cal Poly's team, but why don't you sit in on a practice or performance, just to gauge your level compared to theirs.  Then audition if you think your ready, or take classes until your up to their level.
