We maintain a yahoo group mail for our community. Moderator of the group mail is a representative of our community, so whenever we have a new representative, a new password is set by the selected or elected person (representative) and only this person knows the password of the group mail. Few months ago (after taking the charge of moderation by a new person) it was found that our group mail has been hacked and some e-mails have been modified by the hacker(s). Now we are trying to find out the identity of the group mail hacker(s). Is there any to find the criminal (please note that both the previous and the present representative denied any involvement in this misdeed)

  1. just wrote this guide to give you some tips of which you may not have heard yet. Hopefully, it won't come to a hacker getting in, but if it does... Tip 1: Hackers cover their tracks. Experienced hackers cover them more thorougly, but amateur hackers sometimes leave things behind.

  2. only way maybe is to check the IP address. you'd also have to first confirm it was a hacker, not the person with the new pass word. generally speaking, hackers do much more damage when they gain control of a pass word than just altering posts and a hacker cant alter a post once it's on a group. in order for a hacker to alter those posts, they'd have to be doing it from that persons computer. I'd guess it's not a hacker.

I'd reset the pass word, consider not sharing that same ID with each new rep.
