How could I pay off my college loans?

I'll be going to 10th grade next year butI was just thinking about how I will be able to pay off my College loans. I have a couple of ideas on what I would like to be. Maybe soemthing like a Lawyer, Doctor, or aPsychologist. But the only thing about a Lawyer is that I will have to go to law school, and then that will be even more money to pay off.

I plan on buying a car when I'm 18-20. But, I don't know how I will be able to pay off my College loans when I become an adult and have my own real job. I'm sure that tuition will probably be at least 30 some G's. If not more. Unless I get a scholarship.

How much money does a four year public College cost? four yeare private College? How long does it normally take to pay off College loans? How could I do this in less time than most people?

Thanks for your help!

  1. I know people who didn't have much family support and they managed to go to college on scholarships, grants, and loans. There are a lot of grants that aren't publicised and only your loan counselor will know the best ones for you. Depending on your circumstances and the choices you make will affect how much loans will be needed and long it will take to pay them off. I would worry more about more grades than the loans if I were you and the higher your GPA the more likely you are to get a scholarship. It sounds like you still don't know what you want to do. There is no easy answer because really it is all up to you.

  2. Doctors 8 years -- at least unless you specialize --lawyer 8 years cost is a bunch -- once out consolidate into 1 loan and start paying thats all. Private -- up to $800,000 for 8 years public --that all depends and more like 2/3 's 8 years

  3. You should be saving money now to go toward your college education if your parents are not already doing so.  Get a part time job and save as much as possible.  Plan on working while in school and plan on attending a school you/your parents can afford to pay cash for.

  4. There are a lot of great resources online to start answering your questions, start with collegeboard.com. Also, talk to a counsler in your high school that can help point you in the right direction and possibly talk to the financial aid office of a few schools you are interested in. You won't find easy answers to all of your questions, it's going to take a lot of research and hard work, but start ASAP and get your foot in the door. Good Luck!
