So, maybe its just the hype im getting from watching the Olympics, but my FAVORITE thing in the olympics is anything to do with water. Im 16, and i know thats late to start training if I wanted to go to the olympics, but what would I do first to get started, BTW all we have in my town that would help me practice is a YMCA with a pool, lol.

  1. First of all if you really, really want to go to the olympics you shouldn't let your age discourage you, Ed Moses an olympian started swimming his senior year of high school. Second the YMCA is a great place they have a gym and a pool and you can take advantage of both.

    Good Luck!

  2. Well that's where you start, first find someone to train you to swim,

and teach you to swim, most people think they know how to swim but for the kinda swimmers you will swim against you dont know nothin,

find out your best stroke mine was freestyle, from about 6 to 12 I was on swim teams and I still love to swim, even later all i did was race my cousin in her pool all summer, It will take alot of dedication and practice even to get in the same water as most Olympic Swimmers,

it might not look so graceful watching them swim but it is a graceful sport since, there is swimming and there is thrashing in the water, swimmers win.

  3. A few months before (a year is much better, but if you don't have enough time a couple months will work too) you start training take swimming lessons so you know the basic strokes. Find out if there are any swim teams you could join or one at your high school or the YMCA. It's actually really late to start training for the Olympics. Most of the young Olympic swimmers start their Olympic training at age 8-10 years old. I think you're aiming a little high, but hey, maybe in 4 years you'll win a gold medal and become the next Michael Phelps. You could go to a school with a great swimming program like the University of Arizona and UC Berkeley. Darian Townsend, Ryk Neething, Amanda Beard, Lacy Nymeyer, Jean Basson, Albert Subirats, Roland Schoeman, and many more are some swimmers from the U of A who are in Beijing right now. Good luck!!

  4. well u gotta swim.. obviously so go to the y and start training, do laps, look up the different types of swimming they do and practice it

  5. Actually it's never too late to swim if your dedicated and you have the times.. :)

Just know that its alot of hardwork...swimming is killer..<on the swim team...

Just get a membership to your YMCA and swim as much as you can..you'll need a workout plan too..

The best thing to do is join your school's swim team and talk with your coach, if you have potential he'll be more than happy to help you...future olympian :) Also write down some of the schedules at the swim team and do em at your own time..

Good Luck! Hope to see you at the London Olympics!!
