How could a parent throw his children off a bridge?

i just don't get it. A family like that just fell through the cracks?

He's an IDIOT. if he can't handle kids, they he shouldn't have had them at ALL. There's too many people in the world like him, maybe someone needs to throw HIM off the bridge. Why didn't he just shoot himself and leave the kids alone? People are just mean and crazy.

Should government agencies be watching us all that closely? So closely that we basically have to have our whereabouts known at all times? It is tragic that this happened, and also that what happened in Washington DC happened, but should the govt. be watching so closely that this can't possibly happen? I think that the responsibility is the parents', not the governments.

It sounds like everything was okay with this family before the dad became a drug addict. Parents who kill their children often feel that they would be better off dead, that they have failed to provide for them or have messed them up so badly that death is the only plausible option. Some parents simply snap with no warning that anybody outside the family could see and report.

Of course, when there's a history of a parent being nuts and violent it is society's responsibility to step in and do something, but if somebody just takes their kids out to a bridge and throws them off, who's to stop them? It's sad, but I don't think that things like this can ever really be prevented.
