How could any opponent stand to play against Sharapova when she yells/grunts with every shot?

Grunting is extremely common in tennis. Most players do it. The only people who complain about it are the ones who know very little about tennis, or ones who get beat by grunters.

I completely 100% agree with you. But no matter how much she grunts, she is still overly beautiful and a heck of a tennis player. I think Venus Williams is the most annoying tennis player of all time. Sharapova grunts a lot, but Venus looks constipated after every point she plays and grunts too loud on unimportant points.

It can be annoying and may distract her opponents.

I use a similar technique when I play and moan loudly with every shot.

yes, that drives me crazy. but then just watching tennis drives me crazy.  oops, i didn't notice what category i was in. tennis is very, very exciting to watch.....

I agree its gamesmanship. OK grunting happens but when she is blantantly trying to gain an advantage from it I think it is disgraceful.

However, It is her thing and she does claim it helps her concentrate on each shot. We see other players do there thing like Rafa with the pinch and the ball bouncing and bottles etc.

Whether that is the real reason behind the yelling I don't think we will know. Though I must point out when she has mistimed things she has grunted after her shot at times.

According to a recent TV programme, she does it to obscure the sound of the ball leaving her racket.  It helps to confuse the opponent.  It is a form of cheating - according to the programme but no one has the nerve to call her.  Or the others who do the same.

i would use her grunting to her disadvantage- make her really mad and grunt even more cuz when she does that she does even worse. its hilarious. but yes, she's extremely ANNOYING and i can't stand her. i like ana ivanovic :] and in my opinion, she is MUCH prettier than sharapova, and a much better player.

I'd take the pi.ss. I really would just yell harder, it'd be hilerious. I think you'd either just not have 2 let it bother you or just laugh about it. Kinda like safina did.

Just wear a pair of sound reduction earphones by Bose. They really shut out surrounding noise.
