How could communication theory explain hypocrisy?

How could Communication Theory explain this? For example, someone who opposes p**n publicly but watches it themselves?

To me, we manifest both a public and private persona.

Society dictates that we behave within certain cultural norms while communicating with others.

However, we also have a moral, cognitive and emotional mindset which is uniquely ours.  

These two worlds may need modification when conflicts between them intersect.

And, when that happens, we will concede to a public persona while holding on to our inner beliefs at the core of our being.
