How could hydrogen energy make canada a more sustainable society??

  1. As the previous answer says.

    It takes energy to make hydrogen.  Usually electricity from generators burning fuel to make steam.

    By using hydrogen, you would be using all the energy needed to make the electricity, then the electricity, then the hydrogen.  Not a good idea.  If it was a good idea, it would have happened a long time ago.

    By the way, "sustainable energy" is at best an oxymoron.  There is no such thing in creation.  Energy to be useful, has to be used, once used, it is not usable again.

Hydrogen is not an energy source it is an energy storage medium.  Right now switching to hydrogen would just mean more coal and natural gas get burned, it would not be any more sustainable than a fossil fuel based economy.  To make any difference most of the thermal electric plants running on coal or gas would need to be replaced with cleaner energy sources.
