How could i find the history of my house for free?

I just became curious and i wanted to know some websites that would give you some information if you just write your address.

  1. It may depend on the state you live in and what information they are willing to share.  I just did this to find out about my Grandparents old home.  You need to contact the county assessors office (in the county the house is located in)  for more information.  They can lead you in the right direction.  In my case, the records were accessible online with pictures, names and dates!  Good luck, it is really interesting!


  2. You probably would need to search the deeds at your county courthouse.

  3. Information, especially related to land use or ownership is normally very reliable. You should be able to contact a title company in your neighborhood, or become familiar with the records at the courthouse.

    "Just writing your address", or expecting the info online, is where you are missing the boat.  You will probably be stunned at how much you can find.. but you have to put some effort into it.  

  4. I would check the library. In the reference section, many time there are books that list properties and their owners for each year.
