The price of gold changes daily, but it's easy to find in an online search.

The problem is that ore may or may not be pure. Since gold has a low melting point it's easy enough to smelt for an amateur, but the REAL problem is that since you don't know what the gold is mixed with you can be exposing yourself to toxic chemicals.

Best place to ask is a helpful geologist, such as at your local high school or university. They will be able to give you MUCH more info than anyone could online, because they can actually see what you have first hand.
