  1. The knee has many tendons, ligaments, and cartilage structures http://www.coachroblowe.com/injuries-low...  You've apparently injured one of these.

You may want to do a search for the following:

    1.  Lateral knee pain.

    2.  Ileotibial (or iliotibial) Band Syndrome (often affects the lateral or outside of the knee)

This is a good general article on knee pain:

I haven't provided links for #1 and #2 because there are so many, and Answers limits the number of links we can provide.

An injury like this should be treated with RICE:

    Rest

Ice (cold packs to the area)

Compression (such as an Ace Bandage)

Elevation (not in the air; just at hip level)

Anti-inflammatories like Motrin, Ibuprofen, or Aleve may also help.  If the pain persists over 2 weeks, you may want to see a physician.

As an ex-runner, I have at least a dozen tendon/ligament injuries, including an ileotibial band injury.  But you don't have to be a runner to be injured like this.

  2. Hiya, i used to do cross country 3 times a week, and i once ran to much that i overdid the amount of exercises i should have done to the point where i pulled the ligaments in my knee. My knee swelled up and hurt incredibly when i put pressure on it. I would advise you to go to the doctors and have it checked out. Hope this helps.
