How could i raise money with my friends for a friends cause??

i have a friend that wants to get into the police academy. He has done all his college and is acceptable but he failed his eye exam. he needs $1500.00 to have eye surgery to be able to join the academy. he made his grandfather a promise that he would, his grandfather passed away and he wont be able to come across that promise. so me and the group of friends decided without him knowing that we will somehow raise him that money. so heres where i ask yall... any ideas on how to raise money??

what can we do, or what could we do.. we r willing to do anything rational and legal to help him.

You could have a car wash.  Ask around to find out some places that will let you do car washes to raise money.  People will want to know what it's for so you could have a sign or something saying it's for medical expenses or eye surgery for a friend.  You could have a yard sale at one of your houses.  You could have a bake sale or hot dog sale.  Some stores will let people set up outside their doors for that.  I know they let non-profit organizations do it but I don't know how strict they are since you are not a non-profit organization.  You could explain the situation and ask if they would let you.  Some grocery stores will let organizations bag groceries for donations.  You could try to sell stuff on e-bay if you have anything you want to get rid of.
