How could some people be critical of Obama's speaking prowess?

Inspirational speeches in the past have been proven to change a multitude of people, change history. Hitler's speeches gave birth to World War II. Evangelical leaders make millions of people do things just by speaking. Jesus Christ was a speaker but resulted to the biggest religion in the history. History is made by speakers who shake the people's minds and hearts. Even Oprah Winfrey can make a star out of people just by "speaking".

I think speaking is underestimated.

as long as he follows his written script, he is fine but if he goes off script on his own, like if his teleprompter fails, he is lost and we see the 'real' speaker and he is not so brilliant.

he like those you mentioned, do have the power of people and seems to memorize them.  strange but that is how so many were deceived by Hitler, they too wanted 'change' but it was not the change they thought.

Is he a good speaker? No.

He is a good reader. He can speak very eloquently if he has a teleprompter and has rehearsed his speech many times before. However, when it comes to off-the-cuff, unrehearsed speaking, he stumbles and babbles his way through it.

And I personally find it kind of offensive that you compared Obama to Jesus....

Hitler spoke with notes, but no teleprompter. Jesus didn't even speak with notes. Obama stutters even when using a teleprompter, and without one he's easy to catch absolutely flat-footed. He's not even president yet, and already he's making FAR more verbal gaffes than George Bush ever did. I'm thinking of making my own "Obamisms" cards... You'll buy some right?

Obama is obviously an excellent orator as long as he is well prepared and his teleprompter is working properly. When he looks particularly weak is when he is responding off the cuff without any opportunity to coordinate an appropriately eloquent response. Lots of "um's" and other delaying monosyllables. Throughout the ages, with scant few exceptions, inspirational speeches have been the direct result of talented speech writers and not the individuals that actually say their words. Obama is no different.

Unfortunately you're only including good people. There have been many evil people that were great speakers: Mao, Hitler, Castro, Chavez, Stalin, Mussolini, Osama Bin Laden.

To business people, Obama is evil. Look at his speech. The rich and business are the enemy? This is a rallying of the peasants to take over the government. And the peasants buy into it, because they are fooled by his elegant speeches.

It is their opinion. Just because 90% of people think something does not mean that it is true. BUT in the case of Y!A many people are simply being partisan and not arguing with facts. They often use one YouTube clip for Propaganda. He gives substance in his speeches, you just have to listen for it.

Opinions are fine, just use evidence and be intelligent about it.

I assume he uses a teleprompter, but he wrights them, or he had to during the writers strike.
