iam a 20 years old guy...in the summer of 2005....i drowned in a swimming pool....i stayed maybe like 5 minutes in a coma under water until my bro and friend saw me and took me out of water...it was night and there was many ppl and nobody saw me...my bro and friend told me that they saw me lying down on the floor of the pool in a coma, how come i didn't float up? is it because i had no oxygen?? if it's because i had no oxygen then...how come i didn't get any brain damage even if a small one? i heard that if oxygen is cut from the brain just for a little time then a brain damage occurs like vision lost, paralyse or somethin else and most ppl who survived drowning have some permanent brain damage....how is it possible that i didn't get any brain damage? don't forget i stayed like 5 minutes under water in a coma....that was a really near death experience for me...anyway...explain my questions plz

  1. acutally, this is a rare case in which when the brain is in a coma,it acuatlly shuts down completely.when ur brain went into a coma,it mus t have somehow cut off the respiration system.in doing so,the brain has no option but to feed of the oxygen left in the blood.it also comesumes it slowly,so that it can survive much longer than normally.believe it or not,i saw a kid in the news that survived 10 mins under water.the same thing that happened to u.what happened to u was a rare defense machinisum.hope that helped.my dad is a doctor by the way

  2. The 5 to 6 minutes rule is just an average. Depending on your body temp., oxygen saturation level, your bodies efficiency in using oxygen and a lot of other factors, many people have stayed under water up to 30 minutes and showed no brain damage.  Never discount the miracle factor either. I drowned when I was a kid and test high on IQ tests even today.  Some of us just get lucky I guess!  Also some say that we all get psychic power from a near death experience.  I'm skeptical about that one!

  3. Wow. It's amazing that you're alive. Glad you are though it's been nice answering your question.

  4. well a teacher at my old middle school something happened to her and she went like 8min without oxygen and she is fine so idk why you wouldnt get brain damage but its happened to others also and they are fine now.

  5. god, man your lucky he must have kept u for a reason

  6. "maybe like 5 minutes"

the brain can rewire itself over time (to some degree) and if you have any brain damage from the event, you're going to be the last person who knows.

  7. there was someone watching u that night

if ur a believer then thats ur answer

  8. You didn't float because your lungs were filled with water - that extra weight destroyed any natural buoyancy you might have had.

As for brain damage - well, the colder the water the slower the damage occurs.  You were just lucky, not everyone who gets pulled out that quickly comes back.

  9. It was not your time and your Guardian Angel was with you.

  10. you didnt float up because you didnt have oxygen in your lungs that brings you to the surface.

you were slowly dying under water but not completely dead because even if you pass out under water and wait like five min. you wont be dead 'cause your hearts beatin and your brain is still alive even in a coma.

  11. You were unconscious---not in a coma. You didn't float to the top because a body takes more time than that to raise to the top---that's why they often dredge water bottoms looking for a body. I was pronounced dead for 8 minutes----my heart had stopped. It was a full 8 minutes in a hospital setting, and my brain is fine. Our bodies are much more resilient than we sometimes realize.

  12. Drowned = To kill by submerging and suffocating in water or another liquid.

How do you know it was 5 minutes if you were in a coma?

Maybe your brain damage is something more subtle than blindness or paralysis?

This is a medical question yet you have asked it in the paranormal section, no doubt that you are hoping to hear that it was a miracle bought about by your guardian angel, and I'm sure the people here will love to oblige you.

  13. sorry but you can't get in a coma that quick.

    you were just un-conscious.

and when it comes to drowning,

    when your unconscious and theres

    no oxygen, it doesn't matter.

the brain is only damaged if your conscious.

but most ppl who drown are conscious but if they said you weren't then u got lucky.

  14. If the water was cold it slowed your heartrate

  15. u probably weren't in a coma. but be glad ur alive! and how do u know 5 minutes?

  16. I drowned once when I was little. I felt a hand of my mom pulling me back up on my left arm, and a stranger's on my right. The stranger was just a nice person saving my life. I also felt someone holding onto my legs pushing me up. It was my gaurdian angel. I was little then so maybe your angel just went to get help instead of helping you up since you were unconscious and much heavier than a 4 year old. I'm glad you are back with us!

  17. Lungs are empty, so you sink. The heart stops beating after 2 minutes, then 2 minutes after that, brain damage begins. Sure they must've been looking for you for 5 minutes doesn't mean you were sunk that long. I too am a surviving drowning victim. Reached out from a tire tube to the deep water line falling into the lake straight to the bottom. Remember screaming out for help while trying to jump off the lake floor. A quick cough or 2 and I was done. One guy on shore saw me. Only one. I hope to thank him one day.

  18. it just wasnt your time!
