Question:

How could this become legal?

recently i have started researching the chemical mescaline, and the several cactus's that contains this psychoactive cacti. now, i agree some drugs are probably best kept illegal because even responsibly used, they are always harmful on the body. but then i read this

http://harvardscience.harvard.edu/medicine-health/articles/study-no-psychological-or-cognitive-deficits-peyote

and now, i am wondering how a small party without a lobby (peyote isn't exactly popular, it hasn't been for a really long time) could attempt to get this cacti made legal? marijuana is on the verge of becoming decriminalized, i would rather have something legalized that is much safer, to expensive and time consuming to deal, and is indigenous to the united states.

would a simple proposition to any congressman be a good start to this national proposition?

  1. Can't wait till both become legal...

  2. there is not any reason for any drug to be illegal. although drugs can be used irresponsibly, any drug, making that drug illegal does not stop its use.  it just makes the people get it from black market criminals who make a huge profit on it. then people form gangs to sell the drugs and get rich.  then rival gangs fight over turf to sell it,  people die in the gang warfare, not only gang members, but many innocent people as well.  and when drugs are illegal, they are of unknown purity and potency, so more people will have bad experiences on it, or get sick and die.  not to mention that any attempt to try and stop drug use will fail to stop drug use. it will only waste a lot of taxpayer money, and violate a lot of peoples rights in an attempt to stop it.  there is not one positive effect that can come from banning a drug.

not to mention its a completely nonviolent activity that hurts no one but the person who uses it, even if does hurt them.  the government shouldnt legislate morality

  3. many religious groups have for thousands of years used peyote to commune with the spirits of ancestors and nature, I say fine let them.

  4. Why should a thing be made illegal just because it damages the body? What if I know and don't care? Why do I need you or the government to protect me from myself?
